The state of the data nation: skills to survive, succeed and meet the challenges ahead


After nearly three decades working with higher education data, Andy Youell reflects on the increasingly critical – and often painful – relationship that the sector has with data. From the Robbins report in the 1960s, to the research excellence framework, rankings and regulation in the 21st century, our ability to survive and succeed in this data-driven world is now a challenge for institutions and for the sector as a whole. What does this mean for the skills and capabilities we need and how can we meet the challenges ahead?
