Anaesthetist, helicopter emergency medical service doctor and Professor of Public Engagement for Science Technology & Medicine
Kevin Fong is a free-range academic. He regularly escapes from higher education but always returns in the end. He is a doctor of medicine, specialising in anaesthesia and critical care and flies with Kent, Surrey, Sussex Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.
He has also worked with NASA as a visiting researcher at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Kevin has recently been appointed chair of public engagement for science, technology and medicine at UCL, where he runs a course in space medicine and extreme environment physiology.
He is a Wellcome Trust public engagement and innovation fellow and occasionally makes programmes for TV and radio. Kevin used to write for Times Higher Education, too, but is now four years late filing his column.
